I have not been posting because simply put, I have not been cooking from scratch.
Instead, I joined a multi-level marketing company (also called direct sales, network marketing and so on), selling spices and “meal solutions.” I thought I’d share the spices here and how quickly you can prepare a meal but I never did because that’s not what Our City Homestead is all about.
These expensive spices might “flavor” your meals, but over time I felt that these spices started containing the “junk” I was trying to avoid. My girls got tired of eating these “meal solutions” which is essentially a packet of seasonings that you mix with meat or veggies or an array of other ingredients to create a meal. I found myself using a lot of salt because they just lacked flavor and using a lot more of these seasonings than normal because again, the meals lacked flavor. I once heard from someone that these packets are for people who can’t cook. And now, I sort of agree.
When I quit using these products, I did find myself not knowing how to cook from scratch again. It took time to get back into homemade soups and stews, breads and simply good old fashioned meals. Simple cooking is what Our City Homestead is about and that was anything but.
We did garden and I have shared that each month. But that’s where Our City Homestead stopped. I apologize for that and will slowly get back to posting regularly here. We all make those decisions that in retrospect were not that great, but at the time I really thought I was helping others with their meal time woes.
Let’s get back to old fashioned cooking like gramma did to feed our families.
Let’s get back to cooking and baking from scratch using real ingredients and less processed junk!!
enjoy from Our City Homestead to yours
