Winter can feel long sometimes, so enjoying snow however we can is a must! When it snows and blizzards (and sometimes it can snow a lot), I often place a couple bowls outside to catch fresh snow to make snow ice cream. We have been making snow ice cream for several years. It is something my kids love to make because it is fun, tastes delicious and only takes three ingredients!
Since it has been snowing a bunch, I thought what better way to enjoy it but make a batch of snow ice cream! It is quick, unlike old fashioned ice cream, and you can have “ice cream” to eat in just minutes!
Let’s get started!
Place 6 cups fresh snow in a bowl.
Add vanilla and the can of condensed milk to the snow.
Stir well. The snow will seem to melt a bit as you mix but that is fine. The mixture will freeze up as we add more snow.
The mixture will look like this once it has been mixed. It is a bit melted and has a lot more condensed milk than snow, so we will need to add more snow.
The snow looks and smells amazing and will be ready to taste shortly!
Add more snow and stir.
As you can see, the more snow we add, the thicker the ice cream will become.
Here is what it looks like after we added even more snow. I never measure the amounts, I just add until it is enough. When it is cold outside and snowing heavily, I simply toss a couple bowls outside and catch as much as I can. Looks good, doesn’t it?
Scoop into your bowl and enjoy like a regular bowl of ice cream although it does melt quickly.
The remaining snow ice cream I scooped into a freezer-safe container, placed the lid on and set it in the freezer. We will enjoy it in a couple of days. It is super yummy! Top it with sprinkles, chocolate or caramel sauce or any of your favorite ice cream toppings!
Vanilla Snow Ice Cream
12 to 16 cups fresh, clean snow
1 tbsp vanilla
1 – 14oz can sweetened condensed milk
Combine 6 cups of snow with vanilla and condensed milk. Stir well. Add extra snow to make a thick ice cream. Once the ice cream is the consistency you like, scoop ice cream and serve. Scoop any remaining ice cream into a freezer-safe container and place in the freezer. Best if eaten with 1 week.
