It’s Day Three of our At Home Sewing Retreat! Day Two went great and we got a lot done! Yesterday we made a Disappearing 9 Patch Block and I started my quilt top. My girls worked on their own projects – ‘H’ began working on a petticoat and ‘L’ is working on different blocks including paper piecing. Today we will be each working on our own projects.
Here’s our quote for the day!!

We didn’t get to any blocks today and instead we all worked on our own projects which we all enjoyed. My daughter ‘H’ continued to work on a petticoat while ‘L’ continued to work on paper piecing. I worked on my quilt from yesterday.
I sub-cut 9 of my rows into 20″ pieces and the remaining 4 into 13-1/2″ pieces. There are 30 of the 6-1/2″ squares which came pre-cut. I may have to swap a few squares before sewing to divide up the colors/patterns. I had 5 patterns to try to arrange without duplicating which was rather difficult!

I have arranged all the blocks so I don’t get too many repeats next to one another.
I think if I could have chosen the fabric and cut it myself, it would turn out much differently. Or had I worked on the kit when I purchased it, I could have got some different fabrics that went with this theme. Also, l’d rather have cut the strips into the lengths and then sewn together to get different pattern combos throughout the blanket. But that’s totally ok — I still think it’s looking pretty good! It took me a while to arrange the colors the way I liked them.

Time to sew!! Make sure your bobbin is always full! I don’t know how many times today I was sewing with an empty bobbin!

I started by sewing the squares to the sub-cut pieces together in a row, then sewed two rows together.

Here’s rows one & two sewn together and rows three & four.

Here’s what I got done by 1030am — I have two sets of two rows done. Now to sew these two sections together.
I always sew attaching blocks from left to right. Once I had 2 rows complete, I then sewed those 2 rows together. Each time I had a section of 2 rows ready, I attached them to the previous rows.

I completed the quilt top at 1152pm! That was so much work, but I am glad I could finish it today!
I really like how it turned out! The kit came with fabric for binding, so I folded the quilt top and placed the fabric for the binding inside so it does not accidentally get used for something else!

I have not yet decided if I am going to back this quilt with fireside or if I am going to use batting and fabric, so for now, it’ll sit in our pile of completed quilt tops!
I’m looking forward to tomorrow’s sewing day!
