It’s Day Four — our last day — of our At Home Sewing Retreat! The other days have went great and we actually accomplished a lot! In the past few days we made a couple blocks that we taught each other, my daughter almost finished her petticoat while my other daughter is getting quite good at paper piecing. My daughter sewed a lap blanket-size quilt top and I sewed a quilt top too, both from purchased kits. I’m looking forward to another block today!
We started today off with another sewing quote!

We made the Square in a Square – Scattered Squares quilt block (I think that’s what it is, but if I’m wrong, please correct me.) which was my daughter ‘H’s block!
This one was tricky because there were a lot of seams that needed to be nested – and though I nested my seams, some didn’t turn out quite right. But l’m still a beginner quilter, so I think they’re ok, but that is something I continue to work on!

Square in a Square – Scattered Squares Quilt Block
Cut 16 squares at 2-1/2”. You’ll need 4 of one color, 3 of another color and 9 of another color.
This is the pattern that the squares will be arranged in.

I see each row first.

I tried to line up the seams, pin and then sew. Sew rows together. Most of the seams lined up after sewing, but there’s a few that were slightly off. That’s ok because I know it’ll get better the more I do it – I still feel like I’m new at quilting.

Here are my completed blocks.

Here’s my daughters’ blocks.

I also cleaned up our fabric area and finished organizing the bins of fabric which took me a while. It still needs a bit of work, but so far, so good.
We had a delicious supper of teriyaki pork with stir-fried veggies and rice to end our retreat.

I started to work in my sewing journal. I will be journaling each block with directions so I can make it again!

‘L’ made the top for a mug rug and a butterfly paper piecing block. ‘H’ hemmed her petticoat and sewed lace onto the bottom. Overall, we got a lot accomplished over these past few days!
This was a great sewing retreat! We all had so much fun! And I hope we can do these at-home retreats often, but of course life can sometimes get in the way. I am looking forward to our next sewing days and seeing what blocks we make next!!
What’s your favorite block to sew? Please comment – maybe I’ll give it a try!
