As the pumpkin pie bakes, the spiced aroma of cinnamon, ginger, nutmeg, and mace wafts through the air. Pumpkin pie baking is reminiscent of the holidays and something I enjoy. It is warm, comforting and the perfect fall time dessert.
My mom has the most wonderful pumpkin pie recipe. It is a tried-and-true recipe and one I have enjoyed since I was young. I have been making this delectable pumpkin pie for 20 years. It is always well-loved by everyone who tastes it! It is not too spicy and not too strong. It is scrumptious with whipped cream, or on its own. It’s smooth and delightful. You will definitely be going back for more!
Pies have been made since the 1300’s and were initially made as savory pies with an assortment of meats, dried fruits like dates and currants and spices. Sweeter pies came later. Pumpkin pie has been noted in a cookbook from 1675 but became more popular during the 1800’s and appeared more frequent in writings in 1878. Pumpkin pie recipes showed up on pumpkin puree cans in 1950.
Let’s get started!
Prepare a pie crust. This recipe will fill 2 pie shells. I have made a sourdough crust and I have a gluten free crust as well that I will be pouring the filling in.
Mix the pumpkin filling altogether and pour into the crust. Place pie on a parchment lined baking sheet. Bake at 450F for 10 minutes and then bake at 325F for 40 to 50 minutes or until pie is set. The pie may look jiggly, but should be set when lightly touched.
Let pie cool. Cut and serve with whipped cream. Store leftover pie in the fridge.
