Reading about the history of apple cider was quite interesting. Apple trees came to Canada during the 17th and 18th centuries. During the 1800’s there were apple trees near the Hudson Bay Company’s forts where people could use the apples in their home mills. By the early 1900’s there were several apple cider mills across Canada and the first commercial cidery opened in 1928. Soft or simply cider is non-alcoholic and cider or hard cider is fermented into an alcohol beverage.
This easy homemade apple cider is more like a spiced homemade apple juice than a cider since there’s no pressing apples and it’s not fermented but it’s delicious nonetheless! When I crave apple cider, this is what I make and it’s one of my favorites I enjoy every fall!
Let’s get started!
Cut 8 to 10 apples into quarters. I removed the core and apple seed because I intend on using the apples afterwards. Add cinnamon, cinnamon stick and allspice.
Add brown sugar.
Cover with water. Simmer for 1 hour, covered. Cook uncovered for 2 more hours.
This is the apple cider after about 3 hours. The placed the lid back on, turned off the burner and let it cool.
Then why attained the apples from the juice.
I did not strain twice, but if you want your cider a bit more clear then be sure to strain extra.
And here it is…a quick homemade version of apple cider. It’s so good warm or cold!

You can also brew tea and let cool. Serve apple cider with iced tea.
