Dessert nachos is definitely not an old fashioned meal, but it is one we enjoy, especially in the summer months when fresh fruit is more readily available, especially from our local farmer’s markets. We have been craving something sweet, but something that has some nutritional value to it! We opted for these delicious dessert nachos which we each assemble the way we like it — first we place our cinnamon-sugar topped crispy tortillas down, then we pick from an assortment of fruit, drizzle with chocolate and enjoy a sweet dip on the side with it all! These dessert nachos are versatile because you can use any of your favorite fruits, and any sweet dip from the cheesecake dips I have included here to simply flavored yogurt to a homemade caramel or chocolate ganache sauce — the options really are endless!
Let’s get to it!
First we need to prepare our tortillas! Cinnamon-sugar topped tortillas goes wonderfully with fruit. It is slightly sweet and the cinnamon gives the tortillas a pop of flavor. The butter helps to crisp them up and adds a decadence to the dessert nachos! Cut the tortillas into random pieces. I cut the tortillas in half and then cut into slivers. Melt the butter and set aside. Combine granulated sugar and cinnamon and stir well.
Place tortillas pieces on a baking sheet. Using a pastry brush, brush melted butter over top tortillas. Sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar.
Place baking sheet in 350F oven for 10 minutes, watching tortillas closely.
Once golden brown, remove from oven and let sit for 5 minutes. Remove from tray and place in bowl and continue until tortillas have all been baked.
Do these not look delicious!?!
Prepare fruit. Today, we have chopped up strawberries, banana, pineapple and apple. You can also use an assortment of berries, melon, grapes, or any other fruit you enjoy. Any fruit tastes wonderful with these dessert nachos! Cooked fruits or pie fillings are tasty as well! We have set up our dessert nachos buffet style so everyone can assemble their dessert nachos as they like. We always have some sort of dip to go with it like a cheesecake dip, wow butter cannoli dip, melted chocolate or even fruity yogurt. The options are endless!
