We decided to have some fall time fun this week! It’s Harvest Week in our house which means we are doing harvest and fall themed crafts, making delicious recipes and harvesting the garden!
Today we are making country style pumpkins using a wood round that looks like it was sliced from a log. I like that rustic look! We’ll also need hot glue, paint, ribbon, florist wire, a twig or cinnamon stick, fabric/fake leaves and raffia.
Let’s get started!
I’m looking forward to making these country pumpkin rounds. I have been wanting to make these for years! We picked up the wood rounds from the craft store. I like that country feel!
Paint the wood round. You can use any shade of orange, orange-red or even yellow or a yellow-orange or an off-white. I left an edge but you can paint to the edge if you like.
Once painted, let dry in between coats. I gave this about 3 coats of craft paint.
And then I decided I didn’t like the brightness of the orange, so I decided to mix the same orange with a bit of white to create a lighter orange. And then I extended the paint to the edge a little more.
For the stem, we used cinnamon sticks and hot glued a small one to the top. I then tied a bunch of raffia around, whereas my girls hot glued their raffia. By tying, it made it a bit thick but I added ribbon above the raffia and hot glued fake leaves near the cinnamon stick.
And then we decided the pumpkins needed some curly bits from the stem – kind of part of the vine – so we got paper wrapped florist wire which works great!!
I cut a long piece, of the florist wire, and curled it around a pen. Then I gently pulled the wire off and wrapped it around the cinnamon stick under the raffia and I put a dab of hot glue and positioned it how I liked it. In hindsight you’d want to do this first before adding raffia and ribbon, but that’s quite alright — it just takes a little maneuvering!
Adjust it however you like it, trim it and the vine is complete! I think it adds that extra something that I felt like it was missing!
It makes such a cute crafty decor item that adds a bit of fall time to any room! You could also put words on the pumpkin like “blessed”, “thankful” “hello fall” and so on which would look lovely too!
The best thing about this cute craft is that with different colors, ribbon and size of wood round, you can create an array of pumpkins that are all unique!
Here are my girls’ pumpkins. I think they turned out so good!
And they sit on my counter in the kitchen. They add that bit of fall time that I love!
