We decided to make these easy beeswax lotion bars to share with our fellow gardeners at the community garden. Dirt often dries the hands out, so applying a nice lotion bar to help soothe dry skin seemed like the perfect mini gift. We also included some mini soaps which were simple to make since we just melted goats milk soap base down, added some essential oils, dried lavender petals or cinnamon and orange, and others were plain. Then we poured into cute fall time molds, let them set and then boxed them up. They were lovely and easy to do.
Back to the lotion bars! These are actually easy to make. First, melt beeswax pellets, cocoa butter, castor oil and pumpkin seed oil together. I just microwave it, but you can melt over a double boiler if you like. It does take a while to melt it altogether. Once melted, add vitamin E oil and essential oils if using. Stir.
Next, spoon into a mold. We have designated molds just for soap and lotion making. You have to work fast because the lotion mix will harden quickly. If it hardens, simply melt it again and keep pouring.
Here some are set already and others are setting as we finished pouring.
We let them set and harden overnight. Then we popped them out and individually bagged them.
We then put a nice label on and they were ready to give out. This would make a great gift for wedding or baby showers, birthdays, garden parties, or like we did — to our fellow gardeners!
