We like a variety of snacks that are quick and easy to prepare when you are hungry, yet still delicious, and can be made by kids of all ages! We are always on the lookout for tasty snacks that can be enjoyed at a picnic, in the afternoon (especially after working hard) when something delicious and healthy is needed, for on-the-go or even for a road trip, and can be prepared with a few simple ingredients! These snack ideas are perfect and just right when you need a quick and delicious snack!
Let’s get started!
1. Apple Cookies
Apple Cookies are one of our favorites! They are easy to prepare and are a tasty snack that kids love to make! Slice apples, spread your favorite nut or seed butter like peanut butter or sunflower seed butter and sprinkle toppings on like chocolate chips, toasted coconut, nuts, pumpkin seeds, dried fruit or homemade granola. You can also switch the apples out for celery for a tasty “ants on a log” snack that I enjoyed as a kid! Check it out here: https://www.ourcityhomestead.com/quick-and-easy-apple-cookies
2. Dessert Nachos
Dessert nachos is another quick to prepare snack or even dessert! Once the sugar-cinnamon tortillas are baked, top with melted chocolate and your favorite fruit like strawberries, pineapple, bananas or apples. Add a cheesecake dip or wow butter cannoli dip for an added touch of decadence. Check it out here: https://www.ourcityhomestead.com/dessert-nachos/
3. Oat Bites
Oat bites are delicious and flavors can be varied by simply changing a few simple ingredients. You can use any nut or seed butter, honey or maple syrup, rolled oats and your favorite mix-ins like chocolate chips, dried fruit, nuts, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, flaxseed, coconut, or mini candy coated chocolates for a fun treat. You can also add a high quality protein powder for added nutrition. Check out on of our oat bite recipes here: https://www.ourcityhomestead.com/festive-energy-bites
4. Homemade Granola and Fruit Parfaits
Homemade granola and fruit parfaits can easily be prepared ahead of time and taken with you anywhere. Pack the granola separately and add to the parfait once ready to eat to help keep the granola crunchy! You can layer any flavor of yogurt with any of your favorite fruits and top with homemade granola, nuts and coconut. You can layer vanilla yogurt with strawberries and dollop with ricotta and top with homemade granola and sliced almonds for a strawberry cheesecake inspired parfait. You really can create an array of parfaits that you can quickly grab when you are hungry! 5. Egg Bites
Egg bites are delicious and we enjoy them often. They make a great snack and can easily be added to a tortilla, biscuit or english muffin for a breakfast sandwich! We enjoy these any time of the day. You can change up the ingredients which offers a variety of flavors! These egg bites take a handful of ingredients like shredded potatoes, mushrooms, spinach, turkey bacon (or ham), chopped bell peppers, mushrooms or green onions and of course eggs. You can use any vegetables that you like in these egg cups, although I do not recommend tomatoes as it can make it a little watery. In greased muffin cups, add sliced turkey bacon. Then add veggies like chopped bell peppers, spinach and onions. Beat 8 eggs with a splash of milk of choice and a sprinkle of salt and pepper. Pour into muffin cups, divided between the 12. You can also add pizza or pasta sauce for a pizza inspired egg bite as well as pepperoni or black olives. Bake at 350F for 20 minutes or until golden and eggs are cooked through. Top with shredded cheese in the last 5 minutes of cooking. These egg bites can be prepped, frozen and warmed before serving.
