Happy August!! It’s hard to believe we are in the last month of summer already!
Let me show you around the garden this month.
My daughter’s pumpkins are full of blossoms that are about to open! So exciting!

Here’s the corn along with squash, potatoes and numerous other vegetables! The silk on the corn is turning brown signifying that it’s almost ready to pick but the cob has not even developed yet. I think it’s just been too hot this summer!

The dill is doing amazing!! It has grown so much in the past week!! At this point, dill can be picked, washed and chopped. It can be used fresh, stored in a jar in the freezer (which is like using it fresh) or set on a towel to dry. Lots of different options right now.

Patty Pan squash are starting to blossom and there’s even squash growing now!

Tomatoes are slowly growing, but at least we will have a few tomatoes!

Here are the chili peppers — they are ripening now.

The Fall Red apples are doing well. They are not ready yet and still need to ripen!

Gardening is learning, learning, learning. That’s the fun of them. You’re always learning.

The apples sure are ripening in the heat! Here’s the Fall Red.

And here’s the Goodland Apples.

Here’s the herbs.

Here are the 2 honeyberries in the front yard. They’ve done really well this summer!

And here’s the blueberries. They’ve done really well too and have grown a lot!

Here’s the raspberries. The one was basically a stick in the spring – it sure has bushed out!

The two flower pots are looking beautiful!

Here’s the Victoria Rhubarb.

Here’s the stevia.

Here’s the peppers and Robin Red tomato plant.

Here is the Fall Red apple. We will be picking them next week as they are a bit tart and crunchy. But they’re full of flavor and so delicious! I forgot how much I love home grown apples.

Goodland apple tree was basically attacked by wasps. It was horrid. They burrowed into the branches, ate the bark and sap and the tree began to turn black. I got some pruning tar and put that on the tree. We set traps to get rid of all the wasps — we seriously had hundreds!! It was so gross!! We picked all the apples in hopes of saving the tree and preventing more wasps being attracted to it. These apples are hard and crunchy and a bit sour but my brother loved them and said they were delicious!

Here’s the chokecherries. Time to pick! They’re sweet but at the same time, mouth-puckering tart!

There’s so many chili peppers! We picked them and I added them to our homemade chunky mustard pickles. So good!

The glory of gardening: hands in the dirt, head in the sun, heart with nature. To nurture a garden is to feed not just the body, but the soul.”
— Alfred Austin
Here’s the blueberry. We never got any berries off these little bushes in the front yard, but at least they grew well. Hopefully next summer they’ll do even better!!

The chokecherry’s leaves are starting to turn already.

Now that summer is nearly over, the habanero finally has blossoms!! The jalapeno plant has lots of peppers too. I’m looking forward to picking them!

And that’s the update for August. How did your garden do?
