I love that this is a recipe from the old days! These delicious old fashioned fruitcake cookies are lightly spiced, soft and chewy and packed with dried fruit. It has flavors similar to traditional fruitcake but, remind me of an old fashioned hermit cookie!! It’s Day 11 of our 12 Days of Cookies!!
Let’s get started!
In a bowl, cream the butter, brown sugar, vanilla and cream until light and fluffy.
Beat in the egg.
Add 1/2 cup flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Mix well.
Add dried fruit and another 1/2 cup flour. Stir well. Add remaining flour, if needed.
Time to scoop!!
Using a cookie scoop, scoop dough onto a baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Bake at 350F for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Loosen and let cool.

Mrs. Claus’ Old Fashioned Fruitcake Cookies
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 large egg
2 tbsp cream
1 tsp vanilla
1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
1/4 cup chopped candied cherries
1/4 cup chopped dried cranberries
1/4 cup currants
1/2 cup raisins
In a bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, cream, and vanilla until well combined. Add 1/2 cup flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Add dried fruit and another 1/2 cup flour. Stir well. Add remaining flour, if needed. Scoop onto cookie sheet. Bake at 350F for 10 to 12 minutes or until edges are golden. Loosen, place on cooling rack and let cool. These freeze well.
